  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

One little step at a time, Claire-bear. You can do it!!

I like your headline, Claire and great shot of the wintery, snowy steps.

Spring? Don't worry. It'll come. This mess is getting tough to put up with though.

I forbid you to piss this weekend away! Shame! I can FEEL you watching t.v. while "outlining" a paper. Shame shame!

Other people are so encouraging, but, my friend, I believe in the power of tough love.

I can't believe you guys are still getting snow. It's sputtering a bit outside of my office window right now, but I don't think it's going to hang around.

Stay in your puffy vest and bake some cookies, you've earned that. Be Good.

Okay, okay, Natasha! I PROMISE to do my homework! I have no choice - they are finals! :)

Have faith, m'dear. It's coming.

Last Sunday the temperature here was 70 degrees and I sat out in the Well House all afternoon. Today there are several inches of snow on the ground, but it can't fool me. I can smell the spring coming every time I go outside. I'm getting quite excited about it. :)
